The nice couple who runs the joint are more than willing to help you find whatever you're looking for, or to point you in the right direction of whatever you fancy. The aisles and shelves do follow a logic and are organized well. That isn't to say they are organized obsessively, however, which can make for exciting discoveries. For example, I first visited Dunbar seeking a copy of "Anna Karenina." It wasn't listed in their database (which they do keep up-to-date), and I didn't find it next to "War and Peace." My friend ended up finding it the next day while perusing other Russian works, in a beautiful hardcover print with barely any indication on its exterior as to what novel it was.
If you make it this deep into the Bird Road Art District, past all the mini storage units and side streets, then keep your faith a little longer until you pull into a grouping of mini warehouses. One of the tough, orange metal doors has an unassuming sign that reads, "Dunbar Old Books." Inside is one of Miami's coziest hideaways, featuring a well-curated selection of books ranging from Tolstoy's classics all the way to Stieg Larsson's flashy thrillers.
Great spot overall, truly reccomend you come if you want to have a good expirience at a neighborhood bookstore
EXCELLENT BOOK STORE!!! Found many interesting hard cover historical books at extremely competitive prices.
The prices at Dunbar are great, and as far as I'm concerned are a steal. I recently picked up a beautiful 1929 copy of "All Quiet on the Western Front" for five bucks. They accept credit card on orders over $10.
Haven't been there in a while but they're super friendly and warm. You're always welcome to sit and read. There's a huge selection too so you're sure to find something you like.
Best book store ever!
Once you find a section that has you fully captivated, which I guarantee will not take long, there are chairs to relax in and read while you browse. The idea that you are in a mini warehouse will seem less and less plausible the longer you spend inside the shop's quiet calm.
If you're looking for a bookstore with a cozy atmosphere, a wide range of good books, the familiar smell of pulp and comfortable chairs to relax in, look no further than Dunbar Old Books. You will not regret it.
Naught bigger than a shopping center aisle, this used bookstore has sections ranging across the entire spectrum of literature. This includes history, classics, music, modern fiction, science, religion, spiritualism, travel, languages, self-help, medicine, biographies, anthologies, poetry and just about everything else in-between. Dunbar is not comprehensive per se, but it is well organized. You'd be hard-pressed to think up a classic or semi-modern editor's choice worth its weight in salt that they don't have. The shop's real charm, however, is in the old print-run hardcovers that any collector and reader alike can cherish.
