Attended in the late 80s and after being beaten up for being white, my mother had to get the superintendent to transfer me to southwood. I quickly learned I was MONTHS behind academically even though I was in their Zoo Magnet program. I hated both schools for different reasons. I would never put my child there.
All of the reivews are from children having a bad day at this school or trying to take pride in defending thier school .. let me give you a honest parent /step-parent review .. The staff seems biased when it comes to divorced parents and fails to keep steady communication between both parents when involving the child's grades and behavior, And fails to keep an updated online method of calander of events . The Iprep lab is a great idea but there are no content blockers so instead of doing their class work the students have complete free range of the internet and do not complete work and have to spend 2 hours at home trying to complete it ( my children at least ) .. what events we were notified about were wonderful full of information and engaged the parents and students and are well organized . The magnet program is amazing to children who are interested in what it offers . If your child isn't into it they will loose intrest fast .. the schools Cambridge program is just as wonderful . I'm glad to see the school improve .. is it the best middle school no probably not but for being an all around universal school it caters to all of the students weather they are magnet or Cambridge. It's come a long way and still has work to do .. but they have a wonderful principle who is 100% about the students
all of these are older responses this school is wonderful I've been here since sixth grade year and i am in the eighth grade, yes they're fights but southwood has more fights reported,yeah of course theres bullying im 6'1 and ive been bullied multiple times, but for as long as ive been to the school ive heard stories, STORIES!, this school for as long as ive been here nothing was ever been stolen from me, ive never even been around any drugs besides the ones the nurse may give you and ive never even been around anybody who has had sex, just those little pricks claiming that they had sexual relations with my mom. so idk if you dislike it dont make up stuff about drugs and sex. please dont, if my mom read this page before i sent this i probably would of been going to culter ridge middle with the most fights of all dade schools, if you want to point blame.

Come to this school it is honestly the best there is no bulling everyone just mines there own business the staff rlly cares about the students the teachers care about ur education and they have fun activities durning the school year like dances etc it is the best
