2 days in a row dialing and nobody knows how to get you to the person in charge of managing the schedule.
Best doctor's ever, they are very professional and the staff is helpful and all the girls are nice, Dr. Portela took his time to explain everything that I was concerned about it. They gave me the appt for the same week I asked for, and the waiting time wasn't long. Great doctor, I'll recommend him to all my friends and family.
Let me start by saying that I've had nothing but great experiences with Dr. A Portela (the son) but, unfortunately, his office staff make it impossible for me to recommend anyone go to them. I've been a total of 3 times to the office...each time is met with some sort of incident. The first 2, the staff told me that my insurance carrier "didn't exist." They treated me as if I was trying to scam them somehow, even though I told them repeatedly that 1) it DID exist and 2) I had called my insurance to confirm they were in my network. It took almost an hour for them to verify that I was correct and it took ME calling my insurance and putting them on the phone to get it straightened out with not so much as a "sorry" when they realized it was their fault. My most recent visit was also met with staff incompetence. When I called to make a follow up appointment I was told that I had a balance...no problem, I'm happy to pay. When they called to confirm my appointment the day before I was again told I had a balance, sure, no problem. When I arrived at my appointment time of 9:30, I was told I had a balance and asked where my referral was...in all the times I was reminded of my balance, they failed to mention I needed ANOTHER referral (as I had been there 3 times prior on one referral.) Again, it took me having to call my pediatrician and beg for an expedited referral to be sent over so we could be seen. The icing on the cake is that at check-out, I was told "and next time PLEASE don't forget your referral! It's your insurance, you should know that!" as if their incompetence was my fault. My point it, I'm someone who crosses my T's and dots my I's and this office makes you jump through hoops to be seen. It's mind blowing that they deal with insurance and referrals day in and day out and attempt to blame the patient for something they should be experts at. While I love the Doctor and have nothing but nice things to say about him I will not be returning simply to not have to deal with the rude staff again (side note - there is ONE young woman there who has always been incredibly kind and helpful.)
Worst doctor I have ever seen. He was training someone during our appointment and he thought I didn't understand English I suppose because he made a very rude comment about Latinos. He said Latinos were uneducated. Additionally, I asked him if my son needed surgery and responded if you want. I mean he's the doctor and im asking for his recommendation. Never going back.
